ADA — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have named junior men's lacrosse attack Cameron Marous (Brecksville) a CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 At-Large honoree for the 2018-19 academic year, the national office announced Thursday afternoon.
To be considered, student-athletes must be a sophomore-or-higher in academic standing, serve as a starter or important reserve player for their respective team, and have a 3.30 minimum cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution. In addition, all nominees must have participated in 50 percent of the team's competitions at their designated position.
Sports information directors at member institutions within the region then vote on nominees based upon their on-field success and academic achievements.
The at-large category encompasses athletes who compete in lacrosse, swimming and diving, ice hockey, field hockey, fencing, tennis, gymnastics, golf, wrestling, rifle, volleyball, skiing, or water polo.
With the announcement, Marous garners his first career CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District honor and becomes the first ONU men's lacrosse player to receive the award.
This season, the Brecksville native guided the Polar Bear offense with 34 goals, 21 assists, 55 points, and 92 total shots. The junior also chipped in 25 ground balls and six caused turnovers during the campaign.
For his efforts, Marous was tabbed Second-Team All-OAC for the third consecutive season. He has also been named the 2017 OAC Freshman of the Year, a 2018 Academic All-OAC honoree, a three-time OAC Player of the Week, and a one-time USILA Team of the Week selection during his career.
Marous is Ohio Northern's all-time leader with 81 career assists and 190 career points. Additionally, he stands second in program history with 109 career goals and sits eighth all-time with 92 career ground balls.
As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Marous will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. The At-Large All-America teams are slated to be announced on Wednesday, June 19.
In the 2019 campaign, Ohio Northern posted a 13-5 overall record and finished third in the OAC with a 6-3 league record. With the No. 3 seed in the OAC Tournament, the Polar Bears reached the program's first OAC championship game under fourth-year head coach Nat St. Laurent.
