MARIETTA — Twenty-one different players scored goals as the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team posted a 24-5 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Polar Bears (11-2 overall, 5-1 OAC) got two goals and two assists from Samuel Neff (Gainesville, Va./Trinity Christian), two goals and an assist from junior Cameron Marous (Brecksville) and two goals from senior Mitch Groves (Fishers, Ind./Bishop Chatard).
The Pioneers (4-9, 0-6) got two goals from Connor Ficke and John Stanford.
Northern raced to a quick 6-0 lead in the first 4:08 of the contest, led 12-1 at the end of the first quarter and were never threatened in the contest.
ONU played 54 different players in the game.
Senior Chris DiMarco (Worthington) scored a goal, had an assist, picked up six ground balls and was 8-for-9 in the faceoff circle for the Polar Bears.
Sophomore Preston Victory (Brentwood, Tenn.) also had six ground balls and was 7-for-9 on faceoffs.
In all, ONU won 22 of the 31 faceoffs, won the ground ball battle 40-19 and outshot MC 49-15.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday when they host league-leading Capital in a 7 pm contest at Dial-Roberson Stadium with first place in the OAC on the line.
