ADA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team wrapped up its inaugural season with a tight 8-6 loss to leage co-champion John Carroll on a rainy Saturday at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears end their season with a winning record at 8-7 overall and finished 1-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Blue Streaks improve to 10-5, 6-1.
Freshman Max Weese had a hat trick with three goals and freshman Mitch Groves added two goals for Ohio Northern.
JCU score three consecutive goals over a 23-minute span to take an 8-4 lead with 7:34 left in the match.
But freshman Anthony Pavone scored off an assist from freshman Drew Eramo with 6:42 to play to make it 8-5 and Weese found the net (also assisted by Eramo) with 2:49 to go to pull ONU within 8-6.
Northern won the ensuing faceoff and had an opportunity to get even closer, but a turnover ended the threat with 1:31 to play and the Blue Streaks ran out the clock to hang on for the win.
