WILMINGTON — Freshman Max Weese scored four goals, but Wilmington scored seven seconds into overtime to edge Ohio Northern 10-9 in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match on Wednesday night at Williams Stadium.
The Polar Bears (8-6 overall, 1-5 OAC) got goals from five other players in a balanced offensive attack.
Freshman Anthony Pavone scored with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 9-all and send it into overtime.
WC's Andy Esselstein won the faceoff to begin the overtime period and scored the winning goal with just seven seconds elapsed.
Neither team led by more than one goal throughout the tightly contested match and the score was tied at 2-2, 5-5, 6-6 and 9-9 after the first four quarters.
Ohio Northern out-shot Wilmington 54-21 and won 13 of the 21 faceoffs.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their inaugural season on Saturday with a 2 pm game against John Carroll at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
