ADA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team won its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference game and clinched a winning season in its inaugural campaign in the process with a 16-7 victory over Muskingum on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (8-3 overall, 1-2 OAC) got four first half goals from freshman Connor Preston and two goals and six assists from freshman Steven Slagle.
The Muskies (2-9, 0-4) were led by Ian McDougan with three goals and one assist.
Northern scored five consecutive goals, four of which were tallied by Preston, to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 lead with 8:32 left in the second quarter.
After McDougal scored at the 6:39 mark of the half to make it 6-4, the Polar Bears then rattled off eight consecutive goals to take a commanding 14-4 lead with 5:33 left in the third period.
ONU out-shut MU 51-28 and forced 30 turnovers while committing 22.
Freshman Noah St. Croix added three goals and two assists and freshman Anthony Pavone had two goals for Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday night at 7 pm when they host two-time defending OAC champion Otterbein at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
