MARIETTA — Sophomore Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 93-61 loss at No. 16-ranked Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-15 overall and are 2-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 18-3, 12-2.
Freshman C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) added 15 points for ONU.
Freshman Aaron Good (Wapakoneta) hit two 3-pointers and junior Thomas Phillips (Kenton) added another three as ONU took an 18-12 lead 8:50 into the contest.
Good got another basket at the 9:30 mark of the first half to put Northern ahead 20-14.
But the hosts would go on a 15-0 run to grab a 29-20 lead with 5:57 left in the period.
MC led 43-34 at halftime and would pull away in the second half.
Christian James led four players in double figures in scoring with 16 points.
Northern hit 42.9 percent (19 of 60) of its field-goal attempts and 42.9 percent (12 of 28) of its 3-point shots. Marietta connected on 45.7 percent (37 of 81) of its shots from the floor and 39.3 percent (11 of 28) from 3-point land.
Marietta out-rebounded Ohio Northern 60-33.
The Polar Bears will complete their current three-game road trip with a 7 pm contest at Otterbein on Wednesday.
