Junior Joey Hurless leads Men's Basketball in 93-73 loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, WIS. - Junior Joey Hurless scored a career-high 18 points as the Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater 93-73 Saturday evening at Kachel Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears drop to 3-2 on the year, while the Warhawks improve to 2-2.
Northern was led by Hurless' team-high 18 points and game-high eight assists.
Juniors Konnor Baker and Aron Thress chipped in 10 points each for the Polar Bears.
Thress also added a game-high three blocks, while sophomore Travis Feitshans recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
ONU would jump out to a quick 6-0 lead as Hurless nailed a three pointer just 15 seconds into the contest.
Junior Aron Thress would extend the Polar Bear lead as he completed an and-one play to give ONU the 6-0 lead with 18:37 remaining in the first half.
Whitewater would answer with a quick 7-2 run to pull within 8-7 with 15:21 left in the first half.
Northern would push the lead to 14-7 with 13:11 remaining in the first period after a 6-0 spurt capped of by a layup from Baker.
The Warhawks would fight back with a 11-0 run to take the lead for good at 18-14 with 10:03 remaining in the half.
After falling behind by as many as 14, Hurless would hit another 3-pointer to bring Northern within 43-32 at the half.
Northern would pull within eight points of Whitewater after sophomore Joey DiOrio hit a three pointer to bring Northern within 53-45 with 13:10 remaining in the contest.
The Polar Bears couldn't manage to get any closer as the Warhawks went on to win 93-73.
Whitewater was led by Trinson White who scored a game-high 19 points.
ONU shot 24-of-57 (42.1 percent) from the field, including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from beyond the arc, while Whitewater shot 27-of-56 (48.2 percent) from the field, including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from three point range.
Northern will return to action Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm as they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
