ADA — Junior Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) and senior Chayten Overholt (Delphos/Lincolnview) each had big days as the Ohio Northern baseball team ended its season with a doubleheader split with Wilmington on Sunday afternoon at Wander Field.
WC began the day with a 15-11 win and ONU took the nightcap 17-7.
The Polar Bears end their season at 19-21 overall and 7-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers end their season 21-19, 10-8.
Wenning became the 71st member of ONU's 100-Hit Club with a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth frame of the opener.
He will enter his senior season with 102 career base hits.
Overholt finished the day going 8-for-11 with three home runs and 9 RBI, including a 2-run bomb in his last at-bat of the season.
Junior Nate Webb (Bath, Ind./Union County) also homered twice, once in each game. He finished the season with a team-best 10 home runs.
Northern started quickly in game two, scoring five times in the bottom of the first and led 8-0 after three innings.
The lead was 12-2 when WC scored five times in the top of the seventh to draw within 12-7.
But ONU got two in the bottom of the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth, capped by Overholt's long ball, to ice the game.
Junior Tim Knapschaefer (Maria Stein/Marion Local) went 6.1 innings to earn the win and finish the season with a 5-4 record and a team-best 69 strikeouts.
The opening game was tied at 4-all when the Quakers scored nine times in the top of the fifth to grab a 13-4 lead.
Northern battled back and home runs by Webb and Overholt keyed a 3-run seventh inning to get the hosts within 13-11.
But WC scored two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 15-11.
