BEREA — The Ohio Northern baseball team tallied a combined 16 hits but dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 13 Baldwin Wallace at Fisher Field on Wednesday.
Baldwin Wallace took the opener 11-2 and won the nightcap 12-2.
The Polar Bears fall to 13-17 overall and 4-8 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 23-6, 9-3.
BW out-hit ONU by a 15-9 margin in the first game of the doubleheader and 10-7 in the second game.
Senior Corey McMann (Flower Mound, Tex./Liberty Christian) and sophomore Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) provided the offensive highlights for Northern in Game 1.
McMann's two-run homer in the sixth inning provided the Polar Bears' only scoring, while Stevens added a team-high three hits, including a double.
Fresh off getting his 100th career hit, senior Chayten Overholt (Delphos/Lincolnview) finished with a pair of singles.
BWU led 8-0 after five innings en route to the victory.
ONU scored first in Game 2, plating a second-inning run when Overholt came home on a BWU error that allowed freshman Ethan Spears (Oregon/Clay) to reach base.
But the Yellow Jackets answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame that ended up giving them the lead for good.
Northern made the score 4-2 in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from junior Nick Rothmann (Westerville/Columbus Academy) that scored Spears, but a sixth-run fifth inning from the Yellow Jackets allowed them to create even more separation en route to the win.
Junior Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) and freshman Joey Kennedy (Sterling Heights, Mich./Foley Catholic) paced ONU with two hits each. One of Wenning's hits was a double.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday for Senior Day with a home doubleheader against Capital starting at 1 p.m.
