The first-ever Ohio Normal University baseball team hopped on a train on June 22, 1891, and defeated host Findlay College 21-6 in the first intercollegiate athletics contest in ONU history.
The game was called after eight innings after several ONU players discovered some of their personal items had been stolen.
Four years later, Findlay College came to ONU for the first-ever intercollegiate baseball game on our campus.
The ONU team again prevailed, scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth to win 11-9.
As was customary during the 1890s and 1900s, the two teams were led by the ONU marching band from downtown Ada to the local ball diamond west of campus, roughly where the Heterick Library is currently located.
ONU's battery was Kochel and Houck and more than 500 local fans attended the contest.
