Did You Know?: Darren Scott wins ONU's first Wrestling national title in 1987

Darren Scott became Ohio Northern's first NCAA Champion in Wrestling, winning the 134-pound weight class in 1987.
Darren was a two-time All-American and posted a sparkling 117-16-1 record in his career at ONU, winning an OAC title in 1987.
He posted an unblemished 38-0 record in 1987, one of the the best single-season records in Ohio Northern history. He also was 37-5 in 1986 when he came in fifth in the nation at 134 pounds.
His 117 career wins at ONU place him third on the school's all-time win list.
Darren is also among the school's leaders for the most team points (192.25), most 2-point near falls (59), most 3-point near falls (41) and most technical falls (16).
Scott was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through Lima in 2002 (pictured to left).
Scott passed away on Friday, July 5, 2003, after a decade-long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
In 2004, the ONU Wrestling Room was named in honor of Darren's contributions to the ONU wrestling program. Scott was elected into the ONU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. He also served as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Northern for eight years. Scott will always be remembered at ONU for his commitment to Northern athletics and the community.
