Gary Maul, Jesse Marlow, Kelly Born and Scott Strahley all earned All-America honors in field events from 1981-92, setting the tone for the Ohio Northern track and field program's success on the national stage.
Maul was ONU's first track and field All-American when he posted a third place finish in the long jump in 1981 in Cleveland.
He was the 1979 Ohio Athletic Conference champion and his school record leap of 24' 1" stood for 33 years until Josh Colbert won the NCAA III title in 2014 with a jump of 25' 5.75".
Marlow followed a year later with a sixth place finish in the decathlon in 1982 in Naperville, Ill.
He has owned the school record of 6,599 points in the event for 37 years - the longest standing school record in ONU track and field.
Born became the first Ohio Northern women's All-American in track and field with an eighth place finish in the shot put in 1987 in Naperville, Ill.
She held the ONU record of 42' 2" for 32 years until Tia Harris broke the mark in 2019.
Born won the 1989 OAC title in the shot put.
Strahley posted a sixth place finish in the discus in 1992 in Waterville, Maine. Sean Forde followed a day later with a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash to give ONU its fifth All-American.
Strahley was a three-time OAC champion in the discus and his school record heave of 163' 1" has stood for 28 years.
ONU now has 52 All-Americns in school history.
