Saturday's Meet: The Ohio Northern women's cross country team travels to Springfield on Saturday to compete in the Wittenberg Invitational at the Clark County Fairgrounds … The women's 6k race begins at 10 a.m. … Other schools competing at the meet include Baldwin Wallace, Berea (Ky.), Denison, Manchester (Ind.), Marietta, Ohio Dominican, Wilberforce, Wittenberg and Wooster … Northern is currently ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region and No. 33 nationally ... The Polar Bears are coming off their season-opening Polar Bear Invitational meet on the ONU Campus Course where they finished first of two teams, scoring 22 points to 37 for second-place Trine (Ind.) … Fifth-year senior Taylor Ellerbrock was the first Polar Bear across the finish line, placing third of 45 runners overall with a time of 19:43 on the 5,000-meter course … Ellerbrock was one of five Polar Bears to finish in the top 10 … Freshman Kennedy Rader was fourth in 19:59, sophomore Ashley Hockstok was fifth in 20:05, junior Olesya Mertz was sixth in 20:06, and junior Megan Vapenik was ninth in 20:14.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 14th year as head coach of the ONU men's and women's cross country teams and is the winningest coach in school history for both programs … Over 13 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's team to a 1,271-334 record, a winning percentage of .792, and four OAC titles and the women's team to a 1,070-449 record, a winning percentage of .704, and three OAC championships.
