ONU Race Notes: Ohio Northern enters Saturday ranked No. 8 in the Great Lakes Region behind Calvin (Mich.), Hope (Mich.), John Carroll, Case Western Reserve, Allegheny (Pa.), Trine (Ind.) and Otterbein … The Polar Bears are sending 12 women to E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., to compete against runners from across the U.S. in the 20th Annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic … The women's race is 6,000 meters … The women's Blue Race (Open) begins at 11:30 a.m., and the women's Silver Race (Pre-Nationals) begins at 12:45 p.m. … ONU will have runners in both races … Northern placed 13th of 37 teams the last time it competed in the Louisville Classic in 2019 … The Polar Bears' varsity runners last competed in the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville on Sept. 17, where they placed fifth of 11 NCAA Division III teams … Senior Tessa Pitcovich led the Polar Bears with a sixth-place finish of 93 Division III runners in 23:46 on the 6,000-meter course … Senior Taylor Ellerbrock was eighth in 24:10, senior Rue Whitmore was 22nd in 24:41, freshman Bailey Kreft was 33rd in 25:37, junior Lexi Neff was 43rd in 26:11, freshman Olyvia Ashbrook was 45th in 26:36 and sophomore Sydney Goodrich was 51st in 26:48 … Junior varsity runners competed in last Friday's Findlay Invitational, where ONU placed fourth … Freshman Ashley Hockstock was the Polar Bears' top finisher, placing 23rd with a time of 24:57.98.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 13th season as head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams … In 12 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's cross country teams to a 1,174-295 record, a .799 win percentage, and four Ohio Athletic Conference crowns, while the women's cross country teams have compiled a 974-418 record, a .700 win percentage, and three OAC titles … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross-country.
