ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern women's cross country program returns to the course battling for individual all-region accolades and bids to the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championships this Saturday, November 10 as the Polar Bears travel to Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Indiana for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships ... The women's 6k competition will kick off the event at 11 a.m. with the men's 8k race scheduled to follow at 12:15 p.m. ... The Polar Bears placed fifth at the OAC Championships in their most recent outing on October 27 ... Freshmen Elizabeth Whitmore and Tessa Pitcovich spotlighted the Northern efforts after receiving Second-Team All-Conference accolades ... Whitmore finished 13th overall and lead ONU to the tape in 24:03.2 while Pitcovich ended 18th overall in 24:09.8 ... Senior Kristina Myers, junior Kathleen Colvin, and freshman Sophia Thompson ended up third-through-fifth on the team after taking the 26th, 27th, and 28th spots in the championship event ... Sophomore Megan Wright wound up 37th in 25:17.2 while senior Angie Sullivan rounded out the top-seven ONU competitors with a 38th-place time of 24:57.7 ... The top-35 individual finishers in this weekend's event will earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honors ... In each of the eight regions across the country, the top-two finishing teams will earn automatic bids to next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championships while the next 16 best team times across the country will earn at-large bids to the National Championships, rounding out the final 32-team field ... After the 32-team field is set, the next seven fastest individuals at each regional race from non-qualifying teams will receive individual bids to compete at the championship event.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 10th season as head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs at Ohio Northern ... He enters the weekend with a record of 852-374, good for a winning percentage of .695 … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross country.
