Women's Cross Country posts strong victory at Tiffelberg Open

TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team had a very strong showing on Saturday afternoon as it captured first place in the Tiffelberg Open at the Clinton Heights Golf Course in Tiffin.
The Polar Bears improve to 32-6 with the first place finish.
Northern won the race with 59 points, while Mount Union finished second with 63 points, and Findlay was third with 91 points.
Junior Ashlie Baumann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) led Northern across the finish line, finishing third of 91 runners in a season-best 6k time of 22:49.
Junior Colleen Grainger (Hilliard/Bradley) also posted a top-10 finish, finishing the race in tenth in 23:59.
All seven of ONU's top-7 finishers place in the top-26 as sophomore Zoe Schilling (East Sparta/Canton Central Catholic) finished 13th in a career-fastest time of 24:09, freshman Megan Wright (Eaton/Twin Valley South) finished 14th in a career-best 24:12, junior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) finished 19th in 24:28, junior Angie Sullivan (Medina) finished 20th in 24:47 and freshman Chyanne Retcher (Ney/Fairview) finished 26th in a career-best time of 24:59.
"This was a great race for our women," said head coach Jason Maus. "They were very competitive today and ran very well. They showed a lot of heart and maturity in this race and I am very proud of them. This was a great confidence builder for us heading into the All-Ohio meet."
The Polar Bears return to action Friday, Sept. 29 as it competes in the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville.
