ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern women's cross country team will open its 2017 season at the Bluffton 5k race at the Bluffton Nature Preserve in Bluffton, Ohio ... The women will run a 5k race at 6 pm with the men following with a 6k race at 6:45 pm ... Ninth-year head coach Jason Maus looks to lead the Polar Bears as they return nine letterwinners, and look to challenge for an Ohio Athletic Conference championship ... The Polar Bears posted a 49-49 record last season, and claimed third place at the OAC Championships ... Northern's deep roster will look to be its strength in 2017 as the Polar Bears look to compete at a very high level ... Leading the list of returners is senior OAC Champion Emily Richards ... Richards, a 5-time Track & Field National Champion, won the OAC Championship in cross country in 2015 and earned First Team All-OAC honors in 2016 after finishing second overall ... Junior Ashlie Baumann also returns in 2017 after being named Second Team All-OAC in 2016 with an 11th place finish at the OAC Championships ... Senior letterwinner Danielle Sutter and juniors and 2-time letterwinners Janelle Posthuma and Colleen Grainger will also look to make a big impact for the Polar Bears in 2017 ... Junior Angie Sullivan returns in 2017 after lettering in 2016 ... Sophomores Madeleine Routhier, Kathleen Colvin, and Zoe Schilling will also return in 2017 after lettering in 2016 ... Northern has claimed the Bluffton 5k title twice in four seasons and earned Runner's Up honors in the other two seasons.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 9th season as head coach with a 687-316 record, a winning percentage of .685 ... Maus is 61 victories shy of tying former head coach Brian Cole as the winningest head women's cross country coach in school history.
