GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The No. 35-ranked Polar Bear Women's Cross Country team finished second  of 16 teams at the 2011 Knight Invitational, hosted by Calvin (Mich.) Saturday afternoon.

Northern finished with 66 points. Winning the race was Calvin with 27 points, followed by Case Western Reserve with 113 points. Rounding out the top five were Mount Union (126) and Baldwin-Wallace (163).

Junior Alison Steinbrunner was the first Northern racer to cross the finish line and finished in a school record 17:50, good enough for third place overall.

She broke her previous school record of 17:51 by one second.

Fellow junior Lydia Weaver finished 10th overall in a career-low 18:26, followed by senior Ashley Baumer finishing 13th in a career-low 18:32.

Freshman Shayla Siefker (18:34) and senior Mallory Bloom (career-low 18:48) finished 14th and 26th, respectively, and were the fourth and fifth Polar Bears to cross the finish line.

Ohio Northern is back in action on Sept. 30 at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville. The women's portion of the meet is set to begin at 2:45 p.m.
