No. 24 Volleyball improves to 2-1 in OAC play with sweep at Capital

COLUMBUS — The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team got a 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital on the road on Saturday afternoon.

- Junior Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) led the Polar Bears with 12 kills and five blocks while hitting .423.
- Senior Ava Ehlinger (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) added seven kills and seven digs.
- Junior Lauren James (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) tallied five kills and three blocks.
- Junior Rachel Jennings (Novi, Mich.) had a team-high 17 digs.
- Senior Grace Conrad (Somerset/Sheridan) had a team-best 18 assists to go with seven digs.
- Sophomore Caroline Hensley (Loveland/Bishop Fenwick) tallied 10 assists and three digs and had a team-high three aces.
- Capital scored the first three points of the opening set before ONU rallied to tie the score at 5-all. The Comets later led 18-13, but Northern closed the set on a 12-3 run to win 25-21. That run was sparked by pair of kills by Wagner and two aces from Hensley.
- The Polar Bears built an 18-10 lead in the second set en route to their 25-16 victory.
- ONU scored the first six points of the third set and was never threatened, later turning a 16-3 lead into a 25-15 victory to complete the sweep.
- The Polar Bears hit .224 with 36 kills, while the Comets hit .085 with 29 kills.

- Jennings has 1,399 career digs, which is 68 away from joining ONU's all-time top 10 in that category.
- Conrad has 1,588 career assists. She is just 184 assists away from joining ONU's top-10 list in the category.
- Wagner ranks seventh all-time in ONU's top-10 list for hitting percentage, hitting .301 to date.
- ONU leads the all-time series with Capital by a 62-9 margin. Saturday's win was the Polar Bears' 19th straight victory in the series dating back to 2007.
- Sophie Windover is now 12-5 in her first season as head coach of the ONU volleyball team.
