School record nine players named Academic All-OAC in Volleyball for 2018

ADA — A school-record nine Ohio Northern volleyball players were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2018.
Senior Josie Andres (Sunman, Ind./East Central), juniors Madison Broering (Saint Henry), McKenna Hostetler (Plain City/Alder), Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) and Kristin Langston (Versailles) and sophomores Paige Hartings (Coldwater), Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek), Christen Ware (Jackson Center) and Hope Williamson (Noblesville, Ind./Heritage Christian) all received the honor.
The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50.
The OAC recognized 324 student-athletes in six sports across the 10 league teams this fall, with Ohio Northern collecting 57 of those awards.
Andres, a middle hitter majoring in sport management, is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree.
This season, Andres had 129 kills and 25 blocks while playing in 27 matches and was named to the ONU Invitational All-Tournament Team.
In her two seasons as a Polar Bear, Andres had 218 kills and 52 blocks after transferring from Mount Saint Joseph.
Broering is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree and is a defensive specialist majoring in middle childhood education.
She was second on the team with 450 digs this season.
Broering has played setter, libero and defensive specialist in her three seasons as a Polar Bear, racking up 689 digs and 147 assists in her career.
Hostetler is making her second appearance on the Academic All-Conference squad and is a libero/defensive specialist majoring in accounting.
She led the Polar Bears with 540 digs and 43 service aces this season while playing in all 30 matches.
She will enter her senior season with 1,415 digs and 129 assists.
Huppert, a junior pharmacy major, adds the accolade to an already impressive awards list in her career that includes being named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2017 and 2018, AVCA First-Team All-Great Lakes Region twice, and to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference listings all three years.
She is also an Academic All-District 7 honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America and is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree.
This season, she lead the Polar Bears with 368 kills, a .340 hitting percentage, and 70 total blocks while her kills and attack percentage marks also ranked her third among OAC student-athletes. Her hitting percentage also ranks third all-time in the junior class record book at Ohio Northern.
Huppert has 1,025 career kills, a .338 hitting clip, and 286 career blocks in her three years as a Polar Bear. Her career hitting percentage now ranks third all-time in program history.
Langston is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree as a defensive specialist and is majoring in business management.
This season, she had 103 digs in 22 matches.
Langston will enter her senior season with 513 digs and 53 aces in 71 career matches.
Hartings started the final six games at outside hitter this season and finished with 56 kills in 12 appearances on the season.
A marketing major, Hartings has 75 kills and 16 blocks in 21 career matches.
Wade is a two-year starter at setter majoring in public relations and accounting.
She was third in the OAC and 18th nationally this season, averaging 10.62 assists per set. She had 1,041 assists, 23 blocks, 257 digs and 19 aces this season.
Wade was named Second Team All-OAC as a freshman in 2017 and ranks seventh all-time in ONU history with 2,410 career assists.
Ware is a middle hitter majoring in nursing.
She played in three matches this season, collecting three kills.
In her two seasons as a Polar Bear, Ware has 24 kills and three, three blocks and seven digs in 15 career appearances.
Williamson appeared in 15 matches as a middle hitter this season.
A civil engineering major, Williamson had 37 kills, 12 blocks and 11 digs this season.
She will enter her junior season with 50 kills and 14 blocks in 23 career matches.
The Polar Bears finished the 2018 season with a 22-8 overall record, shared the OAC Regular Season title with an 8-1 league record and won their league record 20th OAC Tournament title under 28th-year head coach Kate Witte.
ONU also advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 31st time in the 29-year history of the event.
