Volleyball falls 3-0 at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern fell 25-21, 26-24, 25-16 at Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (12-4 overall, 2-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) were led by junior Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) with 12 kills and two blocks and by junior McKenna Jordan (Toledo/Saint Ursula) with nine kills and a block.
The Yellow Jackets got 13 kills from Morgan Mellinger and 10 kills from Taylor Brown and improve to 22-1, 2-0.
In Set 1, Northern led 15-10 before BW scored 15 of the next 21 points to win the opener 25-21.
A 5-0 run gave the hosts a 12-9 lead in the second set when ONU answered with a 5-0 run of its own to go back up 14-12.
BW then scored four straight to take a 16-14 lead, but again Ohio Northern answered with a 5-0 run to regain a 19-16 advantage.
The ONU lead was 21-17 when BWU scored the next six points to go up 23-21. The set was tied at 24-all when a pair of kills gave the Yellow Jackets a 26-24 win and a 2-0 set advantage.
Baldwin Wallace went on a 15-5 run in Set 3 to turn a 9-8 lead into a 24-13 advantage.
Northern had 38 kills and 20 errors on 137 attacks and hit .131 for the match, while BWU had 47 kills and 12 errors on 135 attacks to hit .259 for the match.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday with a 1 pm OAC contest at Muskingum.
