#15 Volleyball uses balanced attack to sweep Kenyon 25-18, 25-16, 25-20

GAMBIER — The No. 15-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to sweep Kenyon 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 on Wednesday night at Tomisch Arena.

The Polar Bears improve to 10-3 on the season, while the Ladies fall to 9-3.

Junior Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) had a team-high 12 kills, while junior Sydney Bapst (Grove City) and freshman Madi Ellis (Delphos/St. John's) had nine kills each to lead ONU.

Junior Sydney Fecko (Aurora/Trinity) chipped in eight kills and senior Josie Andres (Sunman, Ind./East Central) had seven kills on only nine attempts for an impressive .778.

Kenyon was led by Delaney Swanson with 13 kills and Mackenzie Bruzzio with 11 kills.

The Polar Bears went on a 5-0 run in the opening game to turn a 14-11 lead into a commanding 19-11 advantage and went on to the 25-18 win.

KC used a 5-0 run its own to grab a 9-5 lead in Game 2.

But Northern took control of the game with a 12-2 run to go up 19-14.

In the third and final game, ONU jumped to a quick 6-1 lead.

Kenyon got within 15-11 but a 4-0 Polar Bear run pushed the lead back to 19-11.

Sophomore Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) dished out 41 assists and junior McKenna Hostetler (Plain City/Alder) had 17 digs for Ohio Northern.

ONU hit .303 as a team with 49 kills and just 12 errors on 122 attempts, while KC hit .162 with 34 kills and 15 errors on 117 attempts.

The Polar Bears will take the weekend off and will return to action next Tuesday with a road game at John Carroll in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
