ADA – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced July 16, 2018 that the Ohio Northern women's volleyball team has been named a recipient of their annual AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 season.
Northern joins a record-breaking list of 973 college and high school teams honored with the award across the country, including 173 NCAA Division III women's volleyball programs. This season's number of honorees bests the previous record of 835 designees set one year ago.
The award, which has been presented to academic institutions since 1992-93, is given to volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year. To receive recognition, a team must maintain a minimum cumulative team grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 4.10 mark on a 5.0 grading scale.
The nomination marks the eighth consecutive season that the Polar Bears have been named to the listing.
On the court, Ohio Northern would conclude the season with a 29-6 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference play. They would share the OAC regular season title with Otterbein and return to the NCAA Division III tournament for a second straight season.
