ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team fell for the first time this season to Ohio Wesleyan during day two of the 38th Annual ONU Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears drop to 2-1 on the season, while the Battling Bishops improve to 3-0.
Freshmen Chelsea Huppert led the team offensively with a team-high 16 kills, while seniors Claire Heitkamp and Ashley Borchers added 10 kills apiece.
Borchers also posted a team-high 42 assists.
Junior Megan Nieszala added a team-high 15 digs for the Polar Bears, while freshman McKenna Hostetler chipped in 13.
After falling behind 24-19 in the first set, Northern would close the gap to 24-22 behind kills from Borchers, freshman Sydney Fecko and a service ace from junior Haley Potters.
OWU was able to end the set with a kill to take the first set.
After falling behind 12-8 in the second set, Northern would bounce back and earn a hard-fought 26-23 victory.
Northern would make the next two sets close, but fell 25-21, 27-25 as OWU went on to win the contest.
The Polar Bears will return to action Sept. 9-10 as they compete in the Bluffton Sommer Center Spiketacular, where they will take on Thomas More (Ky.), Geneva (Pa.), DePauw (Ind.) and Kenyon during the two day event.
