ADA — The No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team defeated Muskingum Saturday afternoon 25-14, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20 on Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center.
Ohio Northern improves to 20-5 overall and 6-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Muskingum falls to 18-9, 4-3.
Northern was led in the contest by senior Ellie Gillespie who recorded a game-high 17 kills and added 14 digs.
Senior Kaitlann Hogrefe also had a strong day recording nine kills and hitting a game-high .308.
In set 1, senior Alexis Mills led the way for the Polar Bears sparking a five point rally from behind the service line to extend the ONU lead to 13-5.
The Polar Bears closed out the set with 13 kills en route to 25-14 victory.
After dropping set 2, the Northern attack went to work led by Gillespie with five kills.
Northern recorded 18 kills in the set 3 victory, as six different players record kills for ONU.
In set 4, back-to-back kills from senior Anna Ricker would give ONU its largest lead of the set, 18-13.
Senior Emily Beasley would chip in a kill late in the set to propel the Polar Bears to the 25-20 victory.
Junior Ashley Borchers dished out a team-high 39 assists to lead ONU.
"Our seniors performed really well," added head coach Kate Witte. "Both starters and the ones who came off the bench."
The Polar Bears return to action Tuesday as they welcome Baldwin Wallace to the ONU Sports Center at 7 pm.
