NEW CONCORD - The Ohio Northern volleyball team completed the 4-0 sweep at the OAC/HCAC Challenge, defeating Mt. St. Joseph 25-18, 25-10, 25-20 and Defiance 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18 on day two of the Challenge. The University of Muskingum hosted the 2015 challenge.
Northern improved to 13-4 overall, while Mt. St. Joseph fell to 6-10 and Defiance 4-13.
The Polar Bears were led by junior Claire Heitkamp who recorded 31 kills this weekend, earning OAC/HCAC Challenge All-Tournament Team honors.
Senior Kaitlann Hogrefe also had a strong weekend hitting a team-high .408.
In the Polar Bears three set victory over Mt. St. Joseph sophomore Haley Potters led the way, posting a game-high 12 kills.
Senior Ellie Gillespie recorded seven kills in the contest, as ONU out-hit the Lions 41 to 34.
As a team, ONU hit an impressive .379 and recorded only five errors in the contest.
The Polar Bears completed the sweep with a four set victory over Defiance 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-18.
In the match-up, the Polar Bears saw three players hit double digits, Gillespie, junior Ashley Borchers and Hogrefe.
Hogrefe recorded a game-high 16 kills, while Gillespie added 10 kills.
Borchers also posted a double-double in the contest recording 13 kills and a game-high 46 assists.
Northern returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Defiance to take on the Yellow Jackets at 7 pm.
