GRANVILLE — Junior Kristin Sessler and senior Ellie Gillespie each posted double-doubles to lead the Ohio Northern volleyball team in its 2015 season opener at Denison Wednesday evening at the Mitchell Center.
The Polar Bears (0-1) fell to the Big Red (1-0) 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.
Sessler had a team-high 12 kills and a team-high 24 digs and Gillespie added 11 kills and 20 digs for ONU.
Junior Ashley Borchers dished out 32 assists anf sophomore Megan Nieszala had 20 digs for Ohio Northern.
Olivia Buroker had 17 kills and 15 digs to lead Denison.
Northern won the first set 25-22, but the Big Red rallied to win the final three sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.
The Polar Bears will open the home portion of their schedule on Friday night at 7:30 pm against DePauw (Ind.) the 37th annual ONU Invitational.
