Junior Kaitlann Hogrefe leads Volleyball to 26-24, 25-15, 25-20 win over Capital

ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team defeated Capital Saturday afternoon in three sets, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20, at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 15-8, 3-2 OAC, while Capital falls to 9-17, 1-4 OAC.
ONU was led by Kaitlann Hogrefe recording a team-high 11 kills and two blocks in the game.
With the victory, Ohio Northern extends is home record to 8-0 this season.
Northern jumped to a quick 3-0 lead to start set 1, and would go on to score seven of the next 12 points.
After a series of attacking errors by the Polar Bears, Capital would lock the score at 20 but with a kill by junior Ellie Gillespie, and a block from freshman Hannah Davis ONU would hang on to win set 1, 26-24.
Northern and Capital exchanged points for most of set 2 but the Polar Bears were able to pull away late.
Northern would rattle off nine straight points, keyed by a kill from Davis, to give ONU the 18-9 advantage.
Kills from sophomores Kristin Sessler and Claire Heitkamp secured the set 2 win, 25-15.
Capital would lead for most of set 3, but ONU would rally back to win 25-20.
After a kill from sophomore Ashley Borchers and attacking errors by the Crusaders, ONU would score three of the last four points to secure the victory.
The Polar Bears hit .220 for the match on 41 kills with 14 errors, while the Crusaders hit .049 on 31 kills and 25 errors.
Ohio Northern will return to action at the ONU Sports Center Tuesday, facing conference opponent Heidelberg at 7 pm.
