Freshman Hannah Davis leads Volleyball to 25-8, 25-7, 25-13 sweep of Wilmington

ADA — Freshman Hannah Davis had 11 kills, hit .556 and had six blocks to lead the Ohio Northern volleyball team to a 25-8, 25-7, 25-13 victory over Wilmington Tuesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (14-6 overall, 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) hit .290 on the night with 37 kills and only eight errors.
Northern's defense had eight blocks and limited the Quakers (2-18, 0-3) to just 16 kills and a negative .085 hitting percentage in the match.
Davis finished with 11 kills on only 18 attempts. Junior Ellie Gillespie added seven kills and hit .444, sophomore Ashley Borchers dished out 29 assists and freshman Lauren Hulette had a team-high 13 digs.
In Set 1, ONU rattled off five straight points to take a quick 6-3 lead and never looked back.
Northern led 12-5 and 20-6 and then scored the final four points to win the opening set 25-8.
In the second set, the Polar Bears went on a 5-0 run to go up 8-3, then scored 13 consecutive points on service by Borchers to take a commanding 21-4 lead.
The third set was much of the same as ONU went on an 8-1 run to take a 20-11 lead.
All 15 healthy players saw action for Ohio Northern and 10 different players had kills in the match.
The Polar Bears will take to the road on Saturday with an OAC showdown at No. 7-ranked Mount union at 1 pm in Alliance.
