Volleyball wins third tournament title of the year with 4-0 record at OAC/HCAC Challenge

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Ohio Northern volleyball team won its third tournament title of the season, claiming top honors at the OAC/HCAC Challenge witha perfect 4-0 record.

On Saturday, Northern (16-3 overall, 1-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) wrapped up the title with a 25-10, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21 victory over Hanover (Ind.) and a 25-15, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15 win over Mount Saint Joseph.

Freshman Ellie Gillespie pounded 29 kills, senior Ellen Grenert had 28 kills and senior Kelsie Zumberger dished out 85 assists in the two victories.

Against Hanover, Gillespie and Grenert each had 15 kills and Gillespie had a team-high 21 digs to lead ONU.

Zumberger had 45 assists and 16 digs and junior Jeni Kmic had 19 digs for the Polar Bears.

Northern also clinched its 35th winning season in the last 36 seasons with the win.

ONU clinched the title with the win over MSJ Saturday afternoon.

Gillespie had 14 kills, Grenert had 13 kills and Kmic had 30 digs for Ohio Northern.

The Polar Bears will wrap up non-conference play with a home match against Kenyon Wednesday at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
