Gillespie's double-double leads Volleyball to sweep of Capital in OAC opener

ADA — Freshman Ellie Gillespie had a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs to lead Ohio Northern to a 25-22, 25-13, 25-12 sweep of Capital in the Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball opener for both schools.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-3 overall and are 1-0 in OAC action, while the Crusaders fall to 6-9, 0-1.
Gillespie hit .394 to lead ONU's offensive attack.
Senior Ellen Grenert had 13 kills, senior Kelsie Zumberger dished out 42 assists and junior Jeni Knic had a team-best 19 digs.
Marissa Price led Capital with nine kills.
In Set 1, Northern used a 6-1 run to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 12-8 advantage. ONU maintained that advantage throughout the set, never leading by more than four and no less than two the rest of the way.
In Set 2, ONU raced out to a quick 4-1 lead and scored four straight points to go up 16-9 and take control of the set.
The Polar Bears closed out the match in Set 3, scoring the final 10 points after leading 15-12.
Northern hit .305 with 53 kills and only 14 errors on 128 attempts, while Capital hit .132 with 28 kills and 13 errors on 114 attempts.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday and Saturday at the OAC/HCAC Challenge in Lexington, Ky.
