ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Ohio Northern Volleyball squad lost twice to nationally-ranked opponents Friday afternoon when it competed in the Washington (Mo.)/Asics National Tournament in St. Louis.
Against No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, the Polar Bears dropped a 3-0 decision by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-21. In the nightcap, Northern fell to the hosting No. 2 Washington 3-0, falling 25-14, 25-15 and 25-19.
ONU was led by sophomore Jayce Born in the first game versus the Warhawks with her eight kills, followed by fellow sophomore Cenzie Yoder with five. Freshman Amanda Volosin continues to get her collegiate experience, dishing out 22 assists.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Jeni Kmic led the Polar Bears with 19 digs, followed Volosin, junior Ellen Grenert and sophomore Kristin Davidson with seven digs each.
Against the Bears, four different Northern spikers had four kills, including Born, Yoder, sophomore Nicole Pottkotter and freshman Rachel Olach. Freshman Hannah English got in on setting action with 11 assists.
Kmic notched 17 digs, followed by sophomore Hannah Livengood with eight.
The Polar Bears close out the Washington/Asics Tournament, Saturday afternoon when they take on Carthage (Wis.) at 11 a.m. and Christopher Newport (Va.) at 1:30 p.m.
