Izzy Burman shatters school weight throw record by more than two feet, leads Women's Indoor Track and Field at Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Junior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) shattered her own school record in the weight throw by more than two feet, leading the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday.

- The meet was non-scoring and consisted of athletes from more than 75 NCAA Division I, II and III teams from as far away as California.
Top ONU Performers
- Burman heaved the weight 17.40 meters to finish first of 32 in the open event. Her toss of 57' 1" was more than two feet better than her previous school record toss of 55' 0" (16.72m) set earlier this season.
- Sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding) was eighth of 20 in the pole vault by clearing 3.72 meters
- Freshman AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg) was 8th of 22 in her section in the 3,000-meter run in 10:10.61.
- Sophomore Kennedy Rader (Mason) won her 22-woman heat of the 5k in a career-low 17:50.63. Junior Ashley Hockstok (Westerville/Central) was 22nd in the heat in 19:15.40.
- Senior Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was 9th of 30 in her heat of the 5k in 18:43.02.
Notables
- Gower's 3k time was nearly 25 seconds better than her previous best time of 10:35.41.
- Rader's time was more than 27 seconds faster than her previous career low of 18:18.19.
- Schweller missed her career-best effort by just .01 of a meter. She currently ranks 14th nationally at 3.73m.
- Burman's mark of 17.40 meters puts her 13th nationally in the event.
- The top 22 in each event qualify for the NCAA III Championships March 9-10 at Virginia Beach, Va.
