Izzy Burman wins weight throw title, leads Women's Track and Field on Day 1 of 2023 OAC Indoor Championships

BEREA — Sophomore Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/iberty Benton) won the weight throw, leading the Ohio Northern women on the first day of the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Baldwin Wallace's Lou Higgins Center.
The Polar Bears (17-0 overall) are second of 10 teams with 47 points after seven of the 19 events.
Burman won the weight throw crown with a career-best heave of 15.92 meters (52'-2"), winning the event by a full 10 inches (.26 meters).
Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Monroe Falls) was second in the 5,000-meter run in 17:53.17 to earn All-OAC accolades.
Freshman Claire Schweller (Paulding) also earned All-Conference accolades, placing third in the pole vault by clearing a career-best 3.61 meters (11'-10").
In the pole vault, freshman Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) was fifth by clearing 3.46 meters (11'-4.25"), sophomore defending OAC champion Olivia Ogg (Hebron/Lakewood) was seventh by clearing 3.31 meters (10'-10.25") and sophomore Jaclyn Boardman (Franklin, Ind.) was eighth by clearing 3.26 meters (10-'8.25").
The distance medley relay team of sophomores Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) and Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge), freshman Kaitlin Prusnek (Findlay) and senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) was fourth in 13:00.47
Freshman Kennedy Rader (Mason) was fifth in the 5k in 18:18.19.
Ashbrook was sixth in the 500-meter dash in 1:21.45.
Sophomore Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.29 meters (17'-4.25").
Sophomore Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) was seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 14.16 meters (46'-5").
Mount Union leads the team standings with 72 points, John Carroll is second with 48 points and Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 37 points.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-Conference honors.
The second and final day of the Championships will get underway Saturday at 10 a.m.
