Kayla Silva breaks own school record in 60-meter dash, leads Women's Track and Field to victory in annual Larry Cole Invitational

ADA — Junior Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash and also won the long jump as the Ohio Northern women's track and field team won the Larry Cole Invititational Saturday morning at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (15-7 overall) won the invitational with 111 points. Otterbein finished second with 97 points and Heidelberg finished third with 57 points.
Silva broke the 60-meter dash record in 7.82 seconds in the prelims, one tenth of a second faster then the previous record of 7.92 seconds she shared with Taylor Lavey in 2019.
Silva then followed her record-breaking performance with a 7.88 run to win the finals.
Silva and senior Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch) finished 1-2 in the long jump with jumps of 5.40 meters and 5.23 meters respecitvely.
Senior Kylie Vestal (Youngstown/Austintown Fitch) and junior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) went 1-2 in the 1 mile with in 5:19.81 and 5:20.26 respectively.
Junior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and senior Kathleen Colvin (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) went 1-2 in the 3,000 with times of 10:34.72 and 10:51.20 respectively.
Freshman Sydnee Perram (Port Clinton/Danbury) won the high jump with a leap of 1.51 meters.
Freshmen Sydney Goodrich (Washington, Mich./Romeo) and J.J. Herron (Miamisburg) finished 1-2 in the 1000 meters with times of 3:10.50 and 3:13.77, respectively.
Freshmen Natalie Garrett (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) and Emily Tackett (Deshler/Patrick Henry) finished 1-2 in the weight throws with throws of 14.50 meters and 12.70 meters, respectively.
DeWitt finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in :09.07.
Tackett finished second in the shot put with a throw of 10.58 meters.
Ohio Northern will travel to Westerville Friday for the OAC Indoor Championships.
