Whitmore finishes 3rd in Mile Run, leads Women's Indoor Track and Field on Day 2 of Hilsdale (Mich.) Classic

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Sophomore Rue Whitmore (Mason) was third in the 1-mile run to lead the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team on the final day of the Hillsdale (Mich.) Wide Track Classic on Saturday at the Biermann Center.
Whitmore finished third in the 1-mile run in 5:25.58 to lead a 3-6-8 Polar Bear finish in the event.
Junior Kylie Vestal (Youngstown/Austintown Fitch) was sixth in the mile in 5:26.74 and senior Madeleine Routhier (West Unity/Hilltop) was eighth in 5:28.97.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Emily Hughes (Norwalk/Seneca East) was eighth in 1:04.66.
On Friday, Ohio Northern had four place in the top eight of the pole vault, led by senior All-American Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) with a second place finish by clearing 3.57 meters (11'-8 1/2").
Senior Allison Stevens (Naperville, Ill./Central) was sixth by clearing 3.27m (10'-8 3/4"), freshman Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) was seventh at 3.27m (10'-8 3/4") and freshman Meadow Wistner (Buffalo, N.Y./Wiliamsville North) was eighth at 3.12m (10"-2 3/4").
The distance medley relay team of Routhier, freshman Gabrielle Kowalczyk (Marion/Pleasant Local), freshman Lexi Neff (Northfield/Walsh Jesuit) and junior Chyanne Retcher (Ney/Fairview) was fifth in 12:58.41.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday with the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein.
