This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs kick off their respective 2019 outdoor campaigns this Saturday, March 23 at the Muskingum Invitational ... The meet begins Friday afternoon with the hammer throw and javelin competitions at 3:30 p.m. at McConagha Stadium in New Concord ... The invitational resumes on Saturday morning with field events and running events starting at 11 a.m. ... Last year, the Polar Bears racked up an impressive 48-7 overall record and claimed the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship title with 166 points ... During the 2019 indoor season, ONU compiled a 24-8 record and took fifth place at the OAC Championships, held inside the ONU Sports Center in February ... The Polar Bears were projected to end fifth among the league this season in the annual OAC Coaches Preseason Poll released last Friday ... Junior pole vaulter Maggie Krause is fresh off an All-American performance at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, placing seventh overall ... During the indoor season, she was also an OAC Champion, an All-Great Lakes Region and All-OAC selection, and a two-time OAC Field Athlete of the Week ... Classmate Allison Stevens and senior Avery Ewing also appeared at the national championship meet, ending 12th place in the pole vault and 800-meter run events, respectively ... Senior thrower Tia Harris will look to continue her strong year, which has included an OAC shot put title and a new ONU indoor shot put record at 44' 4"... Junior Taylor Lavey and sophomore Stella DeWitt are coming off All-Great Lakes Region and All-OAC honors in the 60-meter dash and long jump, respectively, while the former was also awarded All-Region accolades in the 200 ... Freshman sprinter Kayla Silva rounded out the All-Region honorees with a 7.92 clocking in the 60-meter dash, which tied the Ohio Northern school record.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is currently in his 10th season leading the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs at Ohio Northern ... He enters the outdoor campaign with a 317-137-3 overall record in women's outdoor track and field competitions, a .690 win percentage.
