This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field enters the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships with high hopes ... The Polar Bears, picked to win the indoor conference title in the OAC preseason coaches poll, enter the meet ranked No. 9 nationally in the fifth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings ... Northern has remained ranked in the top-10 in all six weekly rankings, including the preseason USTFCCCA power rankings ... The weekends events are set to kick off on Friday afternoon at 12 pm with the men's pole vault and women's weight throw and long jump ... Northern claimed six individual titles at the 2017 OAC Championships and five of those titles return in 2018 as senior Emily Richards won the 800 and 1,000-meter runs and 1-mile run titles, while junior Maddy Reed returns as the 2017 OAC Indoor pole vault champion, and junior Ashlie Baumann claimed the 5,000-meter run title ... Richards enters the meet after back-to-back record breaking weeks, earning her the USTFCCCA Women's Div. III National Athlete of the Week in consecutive weeks ... Richards broke the school record in the 1-mile run last week and ran the sixth fastest time in Div. III history in the event at the Silverston Invitational ... The senior currently owns the best time in the country in the 800-meter run, the 1-mile run and the 3,000-meter run ... Sophomore Taylor Lavey also broke the 200-meter dash school record, finishing 16th overall in the Div. I-dominated field in a school-record :26.07 at the Silverston Invitational.
