WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — Senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) recorded the third fastest time in Division III history and broke her own school record in the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon as she competed in the Camel City Elite Races at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The senior finished sixth of nine competitors and finished third among collegiate athletes in the event.
Richards' time of 2:07.46 breaks her own school record and career best time and also comes in as the third fastest time in Div. III history in the event.
Her time is more the four seconds faster than the next closest Div. III athlete in the event.
"Emily had an okay race," said head coach Jason Maus. "She didn't look like she got out really well. This was certainly a very good debut for her in the 800 this season. Setting a school record and running the third fastest time in Division III history is no small feat. This was a really good test for her and a good start to the season."
