This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team will open its 2017 outdoor campaign as it competes at the Muskie Duals hosted by Muskingum University on Saturday afternoon ... Events are set to begin at 11 a.m. ... ONU was picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, voted on by the leagues 10 head coaches ... Northern received 73 points and two first place votes in the poll ... The Polar Bears are coming off of their highest team finish in school history at the NCAA Div. III Indoor National Championships hosted by North Central (Ill.) College in Naperville, Ill. ... Northern finished tied for fifth in the team standings, while claiming three All-American honors and two National Champion titles ... Senior Emily Richards became the first athlete in school history to win the National Title in two events at the same National Championship meet ... Richards claimed the title in the 1-mile run before returning to the track to claim to 800-meter run title ... The junior became the first Division III athlete to accomplish the feat since 2012 ... Sophomore Maddy Reed earned All-America honors in the pole vault as she finished third overall to earn her first All-American honor ... Senior Kelsey Commager also competed for Northern in the triple jump where she finished 12th overall after entering the meet as the 14th seed.
