Women's Track & Field finishes 12th at All-Ohio Championships; also compete at Grand Valley State and B-W
ADA — The Ohio Northern women's track and field had a busy weekend of competition, competing in three different meets Friday and Saturday.
Friday night, sophomore Alison Steinbrunner competed at the Grand Valley State Big Meet. She finished 7th in the 5000 run in 17:08.87, which is the third fastest time in the nation among Division III runners.
The team competed at the All-Ohio Division III Championships hosted by Kenyon on Saturday afternoon and finished 12th of 18 teams with 20 points.
Baldwin-Wallace took the top spot with 112 points, followed by Mount Union with 71.5 points and Otterbein with 67.5. Rounding out the top 5 teams were Case Western (67) and Ohio Wesleyan (58).
Recording top individual finishes for ONU were juniors Kelly Casanova and Mallory Bloom. In the 5000 meter run, Casanova finished second in 18:19.45, followed by a fourth place finish by Bloom in 18:35.34.
Other competitors included sophomore Lydia Weaver, who finished seventh in the mile run (5:24.66), and senior Amanda Binkey who finished ninth in the 800 run in 2:25.52.
The distance medley relay team in Weaver, Binkey, Steinbrunner and junior Ashley Sottoway took home fourth place in 12:23.78.
Also on Saturday, three individuals competed at the BW Mid February Meet, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace. Sophomore Sarah Turley competed in the 5,000 meter run and finished 8th in 20:33.02.
Freshman Alyse Fitzpatrick took eighth in the long jump with a 4.27 meter mark. Freshman Rachael Edeburn also placed eighth in the high jump with a 1.37 mark.
The Polar Bears competes again next Saturday in Columbus, as they travel to Capital for the Rick Meindl meet. Events are slated for an 11 a.m. start.
