Women's Tennis opens spring schedule with victories over Greenville (Ill.), Asbury (Ky.)

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened up the spring portion of its schedule with a 7-0 victory over Greenville (Ill.) and a 4-3 win over Asbury (Ky.) indoors on Saturday at the Transylvania (ky.) Classic.

The Basics

• The Polar Bears swept all nine courts in the 7-0 win over Greenville on Saturday morning.
• Against Asbury, ONU won the doubles point by taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts, then split the singles courts to grab the 4-3 decision.
• Junior Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) and sophomore Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each went 2-0 in singles play to lead Ohio Northern.
• Junior Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) and freshman Caroline Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
• Cruser and Bell were each 3-1 on the day.

• Hurst and Cruser lead the team with 8-3 singles records, with freshman Lauren Okrainec (Ingersoll, ON, Canada/Homeschool) right behind at 7-4.
• Bell and Robinson are a team-best 7-3 in doubles play.
• Bell leads the team with a 13-8 overall record.
• Senior Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) leads the team with a career record of 82-29 and needs just 18 more wins to join ONU's 100-Win Club.
• Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 36-11 at the helm of the ONU women's tennis team, a winning percentage of .766.
