Women's Tennis extends winning streak to four with 9-0 sweep of Oberlin

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 9-0 sweep of Oberlin on a sunny afternoon outdoors at the West Campus Courts.

The Match
- Sophomores Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.), Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) all went 2-0 on the day to lead the Polar Bears.
- Cruser and Hurst combined to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Hurst and junior Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
- The Yeowomen forfeited No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles as they only brought five healthy players.
- The pair combined to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Bell then won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Cruser won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
- Fifth-year senior Regan Landis (Elkhart,Ind./Concord) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and junior Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles as ONU took a 6-0 lead.
- Cruser won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Hurst won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
- Bell rallied to win a tight 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 decision at No. 1 singles to cap the match.
Notables
- The Polar Bears are now 5-10 all-time against Oberlin.
- Northern improves to 4-1 in calendar year 2024.
- Second-year head coach Sean Swisher is now 23-8 at the helm of the ONU women's tennis team, a winning percentage of .742.
