ADA — Six members of the Ohio Northern women's tennis team were named Scholar Athletes for 2023 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Senior biology major Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), senior biology and chemistry major Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West), junior biology major Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic), sophomore pharmacy major Marisa Petrunich (Brownsburg, Ind.), freshman pharmacy major Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) and freshman forensic biology major Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) were among 1,204 NCAA Division III student-athletes to be named an ITA Scholar Athlete this season.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year.
Kesner now has three such accolades in her career, and Landis is a two-time honoree.
Northern also earned the ITA All-Academic Team award, which is given to teams with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. A total of 160 Division III women's tennis programs earned this distinction for 2023.
Led by first-year head coach Sean Swisher, the Polar Bears finished the 2022-23 season at 16-5 overall and were second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 7-1 mark.
