Women's Tennis posts 8-1 victory at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team posted an 8-1 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Baldwin Wallace on Friday at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts and the Paramount Tennis Club.
The Polar Bears improve to 15-5 overall and 4-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-10, 2-2.
Junior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) and sixth-year senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) led ONU with 2-0 records on the day.
Landis won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Curry won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and the pair combined to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Northern swept the three doubles courts as junior Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) and freshman Marisa Petrunich (Brownsburg, Ind.) won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles and sophomore Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) and freshman Miranda Wills (Ada) won 8-7(7) at No. 1 doubles.
Wills also had a 2-0 day as she won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to put ONU ahead 4-0.
Landis clinched the match with her win at No. 2.
Freshman Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and freshman Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
The match stretched well into the evening as rain moved the match indoors during singles play to the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina.
Curry's win at No. 3 singles was her 26th consecutive singles victory over the past three seasons and is her 87th career singles victory overall, which is just three wins shy of the school record of 90 set by Mackenzie Wills from 2017-21.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at 1 pm when they host Mount Union on Senior Day at the West Campus Courts.
