Women's Tennis opens OAC slate with 8-1 victory over Muskingum

LIMA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday with an 8-1 victory over Muskingum indoors at the Westwood Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-4 overall and are 1-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 4-6, 0-2.
Sophomore Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) and freshmen Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) and Miranda Wills (Ada) each went 2-0 on the day to lead ONU.
Northern swept the doubles courts to take an early 3-0 lead, capped by an 8-3 win at No. 1 by Kesner and Wills.
Juniors Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) scored the first point with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, followed by an 8-0 win at No. 3 by O'Connell and freshman Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John).
Freshman Marisa Petrunich (Brownsburg, Ind.) made it 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles and Wills sealed the match for ONU at 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Junior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, O'Connell won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Kesner won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 to complete ONU's list of victories on the day.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday, April 2 at home against Capital.
