Wednesday's matches: The Ohio Northern women's tennis team will open its 2019 fall schedule on Wednesday with a tri-match at Defiance with Lourdes at the Dix Tennis facility ... Ohio Northern has a 563-245-1 record in its previous 46 seasons as a varsity program ... The Polar Bears return six letterwinners from last year's squad that went 20-7 overall, finished third in the OAC with a 6-2 league mark and reached the finals of the OAC Tournament ... Senior Mackenzie Wills leads the returners this year with a 24-3 singles record, a 24-6 doubles record and a 50-9 overall record in 2018-19 ... She tied the single-season school record of 50 wins set in 2012-13 by Meghan Letizia ... Senior Katie Curry is second in singles (24-7), doubles (17-12) and overall (41-17) and sophomore Olivia Schrager is third at 21-10, 16-16 and 37-26 overall ... Wills ranks 8th all-time in ONU history with 67 singles wins and is seventh with 133 overall victories ... Defiance opened its season on Aug. 28 with a 6-3 loss to Olivet (Mich.) ... A.J. Breneman, Alexa St. Julian and Sydney Huston won at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles for the Yellow Jackets ... Lourdes is a first-year program and will be playing the first match in school history when the Grey Wolves take the court against the Polar Bears. LU and DC will complete the tri-match with a match at 5 pm.

Head Coach Scott Wills: Wills is in his 19th season at the helm of the ONU women's tennis program … He currently stands first in coaching victories among all active Ohio college tennis coaches (NCAA DI, DII, DIII, and NAIA) and is the winningest coach in school history with a 368-99 (.788) record, including a 140-15 (.903) mark in regular season conference competition … He has also coached the program to eight regular season conference crowns and six OAC Tournament titles.
