Women's Tennis falls in tight 5-4 contest to Ohio Wesleyan

LIMA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team nearly pulled off a miraculous come back, but dropped a 5-4 decision to Ohio Wesleyan on Friday at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-3, while the Battling Bishops improve to 3-8.
Northern trailed 2-1 after doubles play as senior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and junior Mackenzie Wills (Ada.) won 8-7(7) at No. 2.
Ohio Wesleyan then won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles to grab a 4-1 lead.
But the Polar Bears got a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles by junior Katie Curry (Ozford/Talawanda) and a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 4 from freshman Abigail Statkiewicz (Mars, Pa./Oakland Catholic) to pull within 4-3.
Junior Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) nearly tied the match at 4-4, but lost a tight 7-6(5), 7-6(11) decision at No. 3.
Wills then wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Sunday with a 1 pm match against Saint Francis (Ind.) as part of a double header with the ONU men's team at Westwood.
