Women's Tennis tops Muskingum, falls to #35 Kenyon on first day of OAC Tennis Fest

MASON -- The Ohio Northern women's tennis team swept Muskingum 9-0 and fell to No. 35-ranked Kenyon 8-1 on the first day of the OAC Tennis Fest on Thursday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears move to 16-4 overall and are 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Ashley Ochenshirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) posted a 3-1 record on the day to lead ONU.
They went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles and were 1-1 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Northern swept all nine matches against the Muskies, dropping only two games in the entire match.
Senior Christina Corbean (Dayton/Oakwood) and Brittany Toney (Greenwood, Ind.) , freshman Mackenzie Wills (Ada) and sophomore Katherine Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) and freshmen Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/ Northeastern) won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 doubles.
In singles play, Ochsenhirt, freshman Katherine Curry (Oxford/Talawanda), Toney and freshman Jordan Dodson (Worthington) won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles.
Kelly won 6-1, 6-0 at No. singles and Latala won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Against Kenyon, Kelly and Ochsenhirt won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday with an 11 am match with Marietta in Mason.
