Women's Tennis defeats St. Francis (Ind.) 7-2, sweeps Manchester (Ind.) 9-0

ADA -- The Ohio Northern women's tennis team remained undefeated after posting a 7-2 victory over St. Francis (Ind.) and defeating Manchester (Ind.) 9-0 Sunday afternoon at Swinney Park in Fort Wayne, Ind., Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
Northern was led in the contest against St. Francis by sophomore Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and freshman Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) as the duo saved four match points in doubles action to win at No. 1 doubles 9-8 (8-6).
Ochsenhirt also posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory for the Polar Bears at No. 1 singles.
Latala would post a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
Seniors Brittany Toney (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood Community) and Christina Corbean (Dayton/Oakwood) were victorious at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-3.
Corbean also posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Mackenzie Wills (Ada/Ada) was able to take the tiebreaker set and win at No. 4 singles 7-5, 4-6 (10-6), while freshman Katherine Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) would complete the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
In the contest against Manchester, Northern would get an early edge as it swept the doubles competition and jumped out to a 3-match lead.
Corbean and Wills led ONU in singles competition as they both posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Latala would win at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 and Ochsenhirt would win at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Curry and Toney would complete the sweep as Curry won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Toney posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday as they travel to Kalamazoo (Mich.) to compete in the ITA Regional Championships on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
